About Castlegar

In the Canadian province of British Columbia, Castlegar is the second-largest city in the West Kootenay. Located at the meeting of the Kootenay and Columbia Rivers, this Selkirk Mountain hub serves as a regional transit hub and commercial hub for the forestry, mining, and tourism industries.

Recently, Castlegar, British Columbia, was named one of the Top Eight Locations in the province with the most potential for economic expansion. Many sawmills, a pulp mill, and Selkirk College can all be found there. The town’s 7,259 residents include a sizeable number of Doukhobors, who were instrumental in the city’s early growth and development.

The Sinixt (Lakes) Indians made significant contributions to the region that is now Castlegar. Ootischenia, Brilliant, Robson, Robson West, Raspberry, Tarrys, Thrums, Glade, Shoreacres, Fairview, Genelle, Pass Creek, and Krestova are only some of the tiny settlements located beyond the city borders. Almost 8,000 more individuals live in these peri-urban and rural areas.

Columbia Avenue is the lifeblood of commercial activity in Castlegar. At its southern end, it connects to Highway 22, while at its northern end, it connects to the Robson Bridge. One area of Castlegar is home to the vast majority of its shops and restaurants. Downtown, Southridge, Oglow Subdivision, Woodland Park, Grosvenor, Kinnaird, and Blueberry Creek are just a few of Castlegar’s many neighborhoods. Neighborhoods including Robson, Robson West, Brilliant, Raspberry, Pass Creek, Ootischenia, Tarrys, Thrums, and Genelle may be found on the fringes of the city.
